Welcome to Poetry Matters (Lindsay Soberano-Wilson)

Lindsay Soberano-Wilson is a mother of three boys, an English teacher, poet, and editor who is the proud Jewish Canadian granddaughter of Romanian Holocaust survivors and Spanish Moroccan immigrants.

She earned a Bachelor of Honours degree in English and Creative Writing from Concordia University, and a Master of Arts in Literature, and a Bachelor in Education from the University of Toronto.

Her writing explores a range of topics from relationships to mental health to sexuality to travel, feminism, sex-positivity, self-identity, and LGBTQ.

Her first full book of poetry is forthcoming (2023), Hoods of Motherhood: A Collection of Poems (Prolific Pulse Press). A book for every woman who has ever had to learn to mother herself the way she mothers others. From recurrent miscarriages to baby's first steps, the poet takes readers on a journey from innocence to experience and empowerment.

She is the founder/editor-in-chief of Put It To Rest, a mental health poetry and nonfiction publication. Soberano-Wilson is also the co-editor of iPoetry, focusing on lyrical poetry on themes of life lessons, relationships, and passions.

She is a member of the Canadian League of Poets and published in journals such as Canadian Women’s Journal, Poetry Pause, Fresh Voices, Embrace of Dawn and Poetica Magazine.

Her debut chapbook, Casa de mi Corazon: A Travel Journal of Poetry and Memoir explores inner and outer travel as a means of discovering self-identity as a Jewish Canadian with Spanish Moroccan and Romanian roots.

Lindsay Soberano-Wilson demonstrates the beauty and optimism of travel writing in both poetry and prose. Soberano-Wilson further acknowledges the benefits and education of travel and the importance of experiences outside the safety of one’s home. The poems provide a rich comparison of modern travel to past history, maintaining a positive tone while recognizing the good and bad of Jewish history. The author allocates her experiences as if giving gifts, not bragging but sharing, with the open-mindedness of curiosity and love, of observation and understanding. The prose pieces further illustrate the perspective of gaining wisdom through new experience, both in terms of geography as well as identity. Soberano-Wilson exemplifies strong, specific imagery, and she proves the wonderful impact of travels and self-rumination culminating in an outlook of hope. Casa de mi Corazon: A Travel Journal of Poetry and Memoir is in itself a service of luscious landscapes and a cheerful chant for a more peaceful and loving future. --By D. L. Pearlman (winner of the 2019 Dogfish Head Poetry Prize) Editor, Poetica Magazine
